For this assignment, you are to create a pitch letter for your group project client. As discussed in class, a pitch letter is a single story idea to a single media outlet. Pitch letters today are normally sent by email, but you should still follow a general letter format and keep an appropriate tone for the outlet you are reaching out to. You are to choose an appropriate media outlet for your client. Think of your target public and the media they use. Then select an appropriate position at that outlet. For example, at a TV station it might be the assignment editor for news or a producer for a show. Identify the outlet at the top of your paper. Once you have selected the outlet, you need to develop a realistic story that might be used by the media outlet. Your pitch letter should include: The story idea in a brief sentence or two Why the consumers of that media outlet would be interested in that idea with one or two support statements A closing that includes the fact that you will follow up with that person in a certain amount of time. This can be formatted like an email since that is how you would send it to the media. Include what you would use as the subject line and then the email copy (you don’t need to make it look like a formatted email, just the subject line and copy is fine). And remember to ID the media outlet at the top. Note: each member of your group must do his/her own pitch letter. Once the assignment is returned, your group may decide to use one of those pitch letters as part of the enactment materials in your group project.
